Lighting the Future
This April, something rather brilliant is lighting up Hong Kong.
From 20 to 23 April, the HKTDC Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring Edition) returns alongside the HKTDC Smart Lighting Expo at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Together, these twin fairs form a powerful, dual-platform sourcing destination—one that brings the full spectrum of lighting innovation into a single, highly navigable experience for global buyers.

Under the theme “Go Smart • Live Green”, this year’s edition signals a decisive shift. Lighting is no longer a finishing touch—it is infrastructure, intelligence, and atmosphere in equal measure. For buyers, particularly those navigating increasingly design-led and sustainability-conscious markets like New Zealand, the fairs offer a direct line to where the industry is heading next.
At the centre of this evolution is the Smart Lighting Expo—a comprehensive platform that spans the entire supply chain, from intelligent systems and human-centric lighting to energy-efficient technologies and advanced digital display solutions. In parallel, the Spring Lighting Fair continues to operate as a one-stop marketplace, grounding innovation in real-world application across residential, commercial, and architectural contexts.
New for 2026 is the Smart Commercial Display & Stage Audio-Visual Zone, a response to the global rise of immersive environments and large-scale event lighting. Located in the HKTDC Smart Lighting Expo, industry leaders including Absen—whose work spans NBA arenas, New York’s Times Square, and the FIFA World Cup—will present technologies designed for impact at scale.

Across both fairs, a carefully curated series of zones allows buyers to move seamlessly between categories. The Greenovation Zone returns with a focus on sustainable building and lighting solutions, while the newly introduced Leisure Lighting Zone and Outdoor Lighting Zone—found in the HKTDC Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring Edition)—reflect a growing demand for lifestyle-driven and exterior applications. The Hall of Aurora once again anchors the experience, bringing together established brands and forward-thinking manufacturers in a setting that feels closer to a gallery than a trade floor.
And then, there is Light Lab.
Debuting in Hall 3DE, Light Lab is conceived not simply as a feature, but as an immersive demonstration of where lighting is heading. It moves beyond static display, instead framing technology within real-world scenarios—inviting buyers to experience how intelligent systems perform across landscape, residential, cultural, and large-scale environments.

Within this curated sequence, three distinct environments unfold—each one a precise study in performance, application, and possibility.
Lumin Garden brings together garden lighting, grow lights, and solar-powered solutions in a landscape-led setting. A clear standout is the Sansi Basin-Clip Plant Light, which leverages proprietary independent ceramic technology to achieve heat dissipation levels that far exceed traditional metal structures. The result is a measurable reduction in LED temperature, minimised light decay, and enhanced stability and safety over time. Its high corrosion resistance supports a lifespan of up to 25,000 hours, while precise spectral tuning and advanced optical engineering deliver high efficacy, low energy consumption, and remarkably uniform illumination. The system is calibrated to support every stage of plant growth—outperforming conventional plant lighting in both efficiency and overall performance.

Lumin Gallery shifts the focus to refinement, showcasing sophisticated museum lighting alongside modular track systems and precision spotlights. Among the highlights is the Xiaoshanqiu Cylinder Spotlight Star Series by Sansi Shanghai, which achieves a notable breakthrough in luminous efficacy through the brand’s self-developed ceramic core technology. Brightness is increased by 1.5 times compared to standard downlights, while producing clean, elegant, hill-shaped wall-washing light effects. A bezel-less, narrow-profile design allows the fitting to recede seamlessly into contemporary interiors, complemented by deeply recessed light sources and a 65° shading angle that significantly reduces glare. The result is a softer, more considered lighting experience—well-suited to both residential and gallery environments, where visual comfort and clarity are equally critical.
Lumin Arena is engineered for scale, presenting high-performance stadium lights, high-bay fixtures, and architectural wall washers. Leading the display is the F Series Stadium Light by Fozhao Huguang (Maoming) Technology. Crafted using full aluminium forging techniques, the fixture is between 20% and 45% lighter than traditional alternatives at equivalent illuminance levels—reducing both transportation costs and installation demands. Its use of high-thermal-conductivity 1060 pure aluminium effectively lowers LED chip operating temperatures, extending the product lifespan to up to 100,000 hours while minimising maintenance requirements. The design also enables fast, straightforward installation, eliminating complex on-site adjustments and significantly shortening delivery timelines for large-scale sports lighting projects.

Taken together, Light Lab distils the broader ambition of the twin fairs—where innovation is not only technical, but experiential. It offers buyers a rare clarity: not just what products do, but how they perform, integrate, and ultimately shape the environments they are designed for.
Throughout the fairs, a clear narrative emerges: sustainability, intelligence, and human experience are no longer separate conversations. ESG-led design thinking is embedded across products, many of which draw from award-winning projects and real-world applications.
For buyers, the opportunity extends well beyond the exhibition floor. A curated programme of forums offers direct access to industry insight, from the Asian Lighting Forum (20–21 April), which explores sustainability standards and outdoor lighting trends, to the Smart Lighting Solution Forum on 21 April, where experts will present advancements in human-centric lighting and intelligent LED applications through case studies.

The experience is further enhanced through HKTDC’s EXHIBITION+ model. Digital tools including Click2Match (13–30 April) and Scan2Match at the fair enable efficient connections between buyers and exhibitors, while the HKTDC Marketplace App allows users to bookmark suppliers, access product details, and continue conversations well beyond the event itself.
For international buyers, the journey has been deliberately streamlined. Preferential airfares, alongside exclusive rates across more than 40 hotels, make attendance not only compelling but considered. To attract exhibitors and buyers from key markets, the HKTDC is offering special airfare deals and value-for-money hotel accommodation while more than 40 hotels are offering special booking discounts for trade buyers and five airlines are providing discounted airfares for overseas buyers and exhibitors.
In 2025, the twin lighting fairs welcomed approximately 15,000 buyers from 108 countries and regions—a reflection of their global reach, and their relevance.
For those specifying, sourcing, and shaping the next generation of interiors and environments, this is not simply a fair to attend—it is one to work from.
